Hello everyone!

Today I kickstarted “7 Days of Karing”, Katrin’s Karepackage’s most recent fundraising initiative where I will be running 7 consecutive marathons the 7 days leading up to Christmas Eve to help offset the travel costs for cancer patients who have to travel for cancer-related appointments in Newfoundland and Nova Scotia! Below I have attached my running schedule:

December 18th: St. John’s

December 19th: Whitbourne

December 20th: Gander

December 21st: Grandfalls

December 22nd: Springdale

December 23rd: Deer Lake

December 24th: Corner Brook

I began my run at the Canadian Cancer Society’s Daffodil Place at 10:30 am. There, I received farewells from friends in St. John’s, employees from the Canadian Cancer Society, as well as employees from CBC News! Please stay tuned to Katrin’s Karepackage’s website for the interview done by CBC News. The run today went extremely well; there was a small amount of snow and slightly chilly, however it was about as perfect as Newfoundland winter weather can be! Hopefully the weather will continue to stay this way (knock on wood). I did not find the marathon today too difficult, I had a few muscles aches (as expected), however nothing that hindered my ability to run. With 6 marathons left to go, I am making sure that I pace myself properly to ensure that my body will last the next few days! Throughout my run today, individuals stopped me to say Hello! and support me, which I really appreciated :)

Currently, I am relaxing and watching some TV in the Moorland Motel – this is the second year in a row that they have a sponsored a one night stay during my fundraising initiatives, which I am extremely grateful for!!! For now, I better do some stretching and get an early night’s rest! Please tune in tomorrow for my next blog :)

Maike :)
